work best

I’m asked all the time, “When do you work best?” Depending on the season, the answer may change, but majority of the time, my answer is at night. I am not, let me repeat, am NOT a morning person. I try so hard to be but it’s a struggle…every morning. Each night I set my alarm for 7:00 with the hopes of making a nice breakfast, enjoying a cup of coffee, and fitting in some Jesus time. But reality sets in and I hit snooze till 8 a.m. and start running to get ready and out of the house to get to work by 9 a.m. The struggle is real, but that’s just how I operate! If I could work from 11 a.m- 8 p.m, that would be golden! After I eat dinner and watch some HGTV (I am addicted), I usually hit another wind and could work till the wee hours of the night. In the stillness & quiet of the night I hit my creative stride. Ideas that I have been pondering on seem to take form, creative block seems to disappear, and productivity excels. Don’t get me wrong; these things happen during the day, but at night I just hit my ultimate “creative high.” Does anyone else feel the same way?

But let me leave you with this: Don’t get so caught up on working aaalllllll the time that you become a workaholic. There are seasons where you may work more and burn the midnight fuel but let that only be a season. You are running a marathon, not a 400 meter sprint. If your work is all you do, you won’t have time to enjoy your hard-earned money and will miss the important things of life around you.
