Happy Tuesday! Today launches a new segment on the blog called, “Hipster for the ‘Burbs.” My dear friend Caitlin has a fun blog that tracks all her adventures around the city. I’ve asked her to guest blog every month about a new place she has been to. Enjoy and show her some love!

Hello there! I’m Caitlin! I live in the suburbs of Atlanta & love going on adventures. Five of my most favorite things: 1//coffee 2//plaid 3//tattoos 4//the GREAT outdoors & 5//thrifting. I’ve recently started a blog, Hipster from the ‘Burbs– I like to think of myself as a hipster & as I said before, I live in the ‘burbs. My blog is a creative outlet to share the things I love, the adventures I go on, the treasures I find thrifting, & anything else that I want to share!

This weekend, my boyfriend, Taylor, & I planned a small day trip to Asheville, NC with a couple of our friends, Jake & Kristen. I love Atlanta but sometimes I like to branch out of the norm to explore new places. Here are some of the highlights!

We visited a few of Asheville’s historical landmarks, such as The Grove Arcade & the Basilica of St. Lawrence. The Grove Arcade is an old building used in World War II for soliders repurposed as a mini-mall. There are restaurants, cafe’s, & small boutiques. The Basilica of St. Lawrence is a gorgeous cathedral that has one of the largest unsupported domes in the country. I LOVE looking at old architecture like these buildings. It baffles me how people back in the day were capable of building such beautiful buildings without modern-day machines.

Asheville is BIG on music & art. On almost every street corner in the city, there’s some kind of musician, whether he/she’s on their own or with a few other band mates. I have a HUGE thing for folk music right now- might go along with my new-found hipster personality. (Favorite instrument is the bango.) There was one group that was exceptionally awesome! If I were a talent agent, I’d sign them, pronto!

The weather couldn’t have been MORE perfect! We did our best to park in 1 spot for the whole day & just walk around because downtown is small enough where you’ll know the city by the time you leave. We packed a lunch to eat in a park nearby. Didn’t drink a lot of coffee because it was too warm. But we did a ton of walking around & exploring, which is my favorite thing! Found a HUGE antique store that had so much stuff I’m pretty sure I didn’t see it all. We probably spent an hour in there & that didn’t even cover it all.

Another thing Asheville is BIG on is there craft beers from local breweries. And when I say local, I don’t mean an hour away, up in the mountains. I mean less than a mile down the road. With it being St. Patrick’s Day weekend on top of being what felt like the most beautiful day of the year, the city was booming! There’s a brewery that was HIGHLY RECOMMENDED about a mile outside the city called Green Man Brewery Co. Such a cool experience! Because I am Gluten Free, I can’t drink beer because its made with wheat. BUT, lucky for me, they had a GF beer which wasn’t too bad.

After the brewery, we had some chips & guacamole at a Mexican Caribbean Restaurant called Salsa’s, walked around some more, & grabbed some bar grub at this random place called Tallgary’s. The city was SO PACKED, we couldn’t get anywhere without a wait except there.

All in all, great trip! Definitely plan on going back soon to explore other parts of Asheville!
